At Hausbrauerei Zum Schlüssel, a traditional and multi-award-winning top-fermenting brewery, you can experience the essence of Düsseldorf’s brewing and drinking culture. Beer culture is celebrated here in its most original form. Our house-brewed specialities, above all the award-winning Altbier, are true highlights of the Rhenish art of brewing. Our Köbesse (traditional Rhineland waiters) serve hearty and honest dishes that perfectly match the taste of our Altbier.
Our location is the legendary Bolkerstraße – the beating heart of Düsseldorf’s old town, known as the “longest bar in the world”. Located directly opposite the Neanderkirche church, we brew our Altbier in accordance with the German beer purity law (Reinheitsgebot), using traditional methods and local ingredients. Our regional products are available exclusively from us – real local treasures for special moments!

We rely on open fermentation, a traditional brewing process that is typical of our region, reflecting the old art of craftsmanship. The high quality of our beer is guaranteed by a brewing process that only allows small scale production. The unmistakable taste of our fresh Altbier is immediately noticeable, as we do not use pasteurisation.

In 1936, the Gatzweiler family took over the brewery and restaurant, and under the management of Karl-Heinz Gatzweiler, it became a place of community.
